The new USB 2.0 Ranger 2212 2-port Cat 5 100 meter Extender System is powered at the PC side and feeds power down the Cat 5 cable to power to the remote extender module and provides 500mA to each of the two USB ports. This model has only 2 ports intentionally since the cost of this powering design is relatively costly and it was determined, while 30-50% of installations do not have power conveniently available at the remote end, most applications requiring power to be delivered to the remote end utilize only one or two ports. Although the 2212 has only 2 USB ports, it is priced slightly higher than the 2204 4-port extender system due to the expense of the powering design but it meets an important need and provides an option for installations where power is not conveniently available at the remote end.

The USB Ranger® 2212 is a two port, remote powered, USB 2.0 extension solution, enabling USB 2.0 connections at up to 480Mbps over 100m/330ft of Cat 5 cabling. The Ranger 2212 delivers standard 500mA USB power over the Cat 5 extension link to the two port remote hub, eliminating the need to locate the remote USB devices near an AC power outlet and greatly increasing the ease of deployment for USB extension in industrial, medical, commercial and other applications.
The USB Ranger 2212, and the Ranger 2200 family of products are powered by ExtremeUSB®, enabled by Icron’s LionsGate™ USB Extension ASIC. ExtremeUSB® provides true USB 2.0 extension at up to 480Mbps over a variety of media, without the need of additional software drivers.
